“How can our city be a home to thriving people, in a thriving place, whilst respecting the wellbeing of all people, and the health of the whole planet?”
Doughnut Economics is a new economic framework that calls on our collective creativity to meet everyone’s needs within the means of the living world. This largely place-based approach to a sustainable future unites all city stakeholders in vibrant and interconnected futures themes – meaningful work, happy cities, healthy environment, and more – with the aim of taking transformative action at a local level.
It is already in action from Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Sydney and Brazil to Cambridge, Devon and Cork. Our ‘Bath City Doughnut’ learning community is taking a ‘learning by doing’ approach to imagining the city inspired by its principles, and we’ve started by reading the book – nine chapters; a chapter a week. Chapter summaries are made available each week for non-readers so no-one’s left behind.
By the time of our first meet-up, we will have read:
Intro: Who Wants to be an Economist?
1: Change the Goal
2: See the Big Picture
3: Nurture Human Nature
And we will almost have finished:
4: Get Savvy with Systems
Which takes us past the halfway point!
This event is for anyone who wants to talk about the various ideas emerging from the book chapters/summaries so far, and get a better handle on any sticky ones as we move through. Bring your questions!
If you’re in Bath and would like to join us, please join the Bath LinkedIn Group: https://lnkd.in/ewGR5C6g and register for the event, and you will see the links to chapter summaries to help you catch up beforehand.
If you’re not on LinkedIn, just email Carra Santos at studio@carrasantos.com instead.
We’ll finish up by 7.30pm, and whoever wants to can carry over into the excellent People Planet Pint!
