27 May Fancy Dragon Boating with us?
I saw a post recently on social media about the 2019 Bath Dragon Boat Race on the 8th of September and thought…that looks fun!
I’ve had friends who have done Dragon Boat racing in the past and always felt a bit like I’ve missed out by not giving it a try, so was delighted to learn our new home town hosts an event. While I’m writing this, we’re not open yet and as such don’t have any customers but there seem to plenty of you out there who love The Grapes and it’s all for a great charity too, so not wanting to miss out on the opportunity, thought we’d start to get a team together.
Dragon Boat Racing is an ancient Chinese tradition and apparently, the fastest growing water activity in Britain today ! We need a team of 11 people to make this work….10 of us will paddle each 30’ boat, one us will be a drummer up front beating time and a professional helm at the tail will steer us a straight course.
No previous experience is required, just plenty of team spirit!
The charity we would be raising funds for are Designability, who first started out at St Martin’s Hospital in Bath creating medical equipment that makes a difference to people’s lives. All the funds that you raise will help to support them to design and engineer helpful products that transform the lives of people living with a disability or long-term health condition.
There’s a joining fee of £45 and you will then need to raise a further £55 per team member.
As this is a pub team, members will need to be aged over 18….unless you want your kid to accompany you and they are over 16.
Places will be booked on a first come, first served basis by paying the joining fee. We will then leave it to you to raise the additional £55 sponsorship money and there are some great tips on how you can do that on the Designability page Ways to Fundraise
