International Women’s Day has a special place in my heart. Last celebrated in the bar as far back as 2020, we had a phenomenal time with performers, poetry, live music and even a belly dancing workshop, that the whole pub seem to take part in and enjoy.
As ever, International Women’s Day is taking place this year on March 8, which being a Tuesday isn’t the most obvious time to hold a celebration, so we shall be doing it all over again with bells on, in the days leading up to the event.
On Saturday, March 5, there will be a variety of performers, with female DJs playing some funky tunes into the evening. On Sunday, we’re going to try and get that belly dancing workshop going again and one of our favourite bands, Chai for All will be bringing their exciting and entertaining Old World Yiddish folk, New World Yiddish theatre songs and jazz-tinged klezmer to the bar. Taking you on a magnificent musical journey from the haunted Eastern European shtetls, through the dimly-lit basement bars of tango-crazed Buenos Aires, to the vibrant neighbourhoods of swinging New York.
Impassioned female vocals lead the party, joyously backed by trumpet, guitar and percussion. With fantastic music, brilliant audience rapport and more than a touch of good time showbiz, this is a set guaranteed to raise the spirits.
what more can we do? If you have any ideas and would like to get involved, just use a contact page and get in touch. Other than that, we hope to see you sometime over the weekend and together, do what we can to #BreakTheBias.
