From the moment we set eyes on The Grapes we knew that we wanted music at the heart of the bar. From Jazz and Trad Folk sessions during the week to vinyl Dj’s at the weekends and live acts on Sunday afternoons, we think we’ve done just that and it is a delight to be part of the Bath scene supporting grassroots musicians.
We also have a lively programme of events throughout the year, check out our What’s On page to find out more.
During the day you are likely to come in and find the bartenders are mixing vinyl as well as drinks, from our turntable behind the bar.
If you have an idea for any event at The Grapes, we would always be keen to hear it, just get in touch.
Go up the stairs to Pocock’s Living Room and you’re almost in a different space entirely. Not an extension to the bar, the living room is used for a variety of reasons from parties, life drawing and community meetings, training and workshop, as well as band practise to a number of Bath’s musicians and a place for our overnight guests to enjoy and relax the rest of the time.
Unlike the bar that has been described as eclectic and maybe even a little punk, the living room is a Jacobean space that reminds you of the former Elizabethan townhouse this building originally was, except now with three bright, large Georgian windows. The ceiling is pretty special too, showcasing an ornate lime plaster ceiling constructed around 1612.
The Living Room is busy most weeknights and Thursdays are especially dedicated to issues around the climate and social justice. One of these is the increasingly popular People Pint Planet which is now preceded by a new book club reading a chapter from Kate Raworth’s Doughnut Economics, a new economic framework that calls on our collective creativity to meet everyone’s needs within the means of the living world.
Popped into @thegrapesbathfor a swifty on Saturday. Amazing transformation! Wonderful to finally meet Ellie @TheBathLandlady who has brought the building back to life!
Great to have another characterful independent back in the town centre. Clearly a lot of hard, thoughtful work gone into this. Congratulations
A quirky welcoming pub, with lots of warm lighting throughout. They stock Asahi, which is amazing, & have transformed the place into a trendy & upcoming hang out. Kudos!
