PCHA brings the balafon to Bath this November.
Son of balafon master Neba Solo, Siaka Traoré learned the instrument the old way; now he's doing something quietly radical with it.
The balafon is a wooden xylophone, ancient to West Africa, traditionally played at ceremonies and gatherings. PCHA's version moves between tradition and now, Afrobeats, electronic textures, and pop sensibilities.
PCHA is joined by Seydou Kienou on djembe (the goblet drum that drives so much of Malian rhythm) and DJ Joti.
Music that respects where it came from while going somewhere new. Not to be missed!
